24th – 30th April 2023

Reusable Nappy Week 2023 is an international action packed week of awareness raising activities and advocacy for all things reusable nappies. It will take place from 24th to 30th April 2023¹² and you can find out more about the benefits of reusable nappies, how to get started, where to buy them and how to get involved in various events and activities. Reusable nappies are better for your baby, the environment and your wallet.

Reusable nappies are washable nappies that can be used again and again. They have an absorbent layer inside, which can have a washable or disposable liner, plus a waterproof layer or wrap on the outside. Reusable nappies come in many different styles, and modern cloth nappies are generally simple to use, easy to care for and a practical option for most families. Reusable nappies are made up of either bamboo, hemp, cotton or microfibre.

Apart from the reusable nappies themselves, you may also need the following items:

  • Nappy liners: These are used to help prevent heavy soiling and catch the waste. They can be biodegradable or washable.
  • Nappy boosters: These are reusable absorbent pads that can be used inside your nappies to give them a ‘boost’ of absorbency when you need it.
  • Nappy wraps: These are waterproof outer covers that go over some types of reusable nappies to prevent leaks.
  • Storage for dirty nappies: You can use a hanging wet bag or a nappy bucket to store your wet nappies until wash day. You also need a waterproof nappy bag to carry your wet nappies when you’re out and about.
