Refuse Collection Update
Some refuse collection crews will be operating (Saturday 10 January) to service any outstanding areas missed during the icy weather this week.
The majority of areas should be covered by the end of tomorrow. However, with ice forecast this evening it may not be possible to get to harder to reach areas so some collections may roll into next week.
If your bin is not emptied today, please continue to leave it out and we will collect it as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while our teams work through these conditions
Collection Disruption during Adverse Weather Conditions
- Put your bins out as usual (if it is safe to do so) as collection crews will endeavour to empty your bin.
- If conditions prevent the crew from emptying your bin, they’ll return at a later time – when it is safer to do so.
- Clear any snow/ice around your bin and ensure the lid opens easily – frozen or snow-packed bins might not be emptied.
- In windy weather, be mindful of where you place your bin as it could blow over.
- Check for Service Updates to remain updated. Information is often communicated across the Council website, social media, Council App.
- Use Recycling Centres if it is safe to do so – if there’s a lot of waste and it’s safe to travel, you might be able to take excess waste and recycling to your local facility.
- Access – try not to block roads or pavements with bins, be considerate with regard parked vehicles – so bin lorries can access your street even in difficult conditions.
Council may prioritise safety and suspend collections completely in severe weather – large vehicles like waste lorries can be dangerous on icy, flooded, or blocked roads.
You usually don’t need to report a missed collection unless your bin is the only one on your street that wasn’t emptied.
