Basic Joinery

The Basic Joinery course is one of the 4Rs staple courses that is run throughout the year. This is one of the courses that the 4Rs run to reskill the local community, introduce them to the basics of joinery and teach them how to make an item of their own.

The participants can then use these skills as a base to develop further and to start projects at home. This course is for everyone over the age of 16, regardless of previous experience. With only a small fee, there is a reason this is one of the most popular courses!

Bench Making

In this course, the 4Rs teach participants how to make a garden bench from upcycled chairs and recycled materials. You will have to sand, paint, varnish and construct their bench with the guidance of the workshop Joiner. This 6-week course is a brilliant opportunity to get creative and make something to be proud of! With no prior knowledge needed this course is open to anyone in the community, over the age of 16.

The mosaic course runs every Tuesday from the 28th of May until the 25th of June, where they will be choosing designs, smashing tiles, and learning how to grout tiles, all whilst having fun and making art!

Marbling Course

The marbling and upcycling course runs every Friday from the 21st of May until the 28th of June. This is where they will learn how to marble paint creating unique and organic designs in vibrant colours to turn any old piece of furniture into the main feature of a room.

Remade In Derry

The 4Rs is passionate about reducing the number of items that go to landfill. To do this they reuse as much of the items donated as they can and recycle what is left. They take the donated items, clean them, repair what they can, upcycle what they can’t and then put the items on the showroom floor for resale. If an item is beyond repair and cannot be upcycled, it is stripped down to salvage all usable parts, that become key in fixing the next items to be donated. The resident joiner does this with the help of their volunteers, but they do run classes in upcycling and bench making, using recycled and repurposed items for you to join.
