Paint Swap Scheme

Save paint from landfill and colour your community by taking part in Council’s Community Repaint Scheme at Pennyburn, Strathfoyle and Strahans Road Recycling Centres.

From Monday 25th September 2023, there will be householder paint drop-off and collection points at Council’s three main recycling centres allowing residents to donate leftover paint and collect reusable paint for free helping bring household DIY and community projects to life.

Recycling Centres

Find your local recycling centre and where to recycle different items including what you can and can’t recycle at home.

New 2 You Reuse Centre

If you have any unwanted furniture or electrical items drop them at the Furniture Donation Point at New 2 You in Pennyburn Recycling Centre, Derry. They’ll be upcycled and refurbished by unemployed and disabled people training in trade skills and are then sold at affordable prices in the New 2 You shop on site. So you’re helping people re-skill while helping our environment – it’s a win win!

Bulky Waste

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Bulky Waste Collection Service is fully operational, providing a service for disposing large items from your home.

Reusable Nappy Scheme

Derry City and Strabane District Council have a reusable nappy incentive scheme where you can claim back £30 when you spend £50 or more on cloth nappies.

It’s estimated that this could help families save up to £1000 from birth to potty if they opt for reusable rather than disposable nappies. It’s also better for our environment saving thousands of tonnes of nappies from landfill each year.
