Charges for Commercial Operators
It is a requirement to pay for the disposal of commercial waste at Council recycling centres. Charges are measured according to the size of vehicle and/or trailer. Commercial operators must make payments via Council’s Cash desk at Strahan’s Road, Strabane T:: 028 71253253 or Strand Road, Derry T: 028 7125 3253 where they will be given a voucher to be presented on site.
Got Unused Paint? Drop it Off
Paint is one of the most expensive items to dispose of. Save it from landfill by dropping it off at Pennyburn, Strathfoyle and Strahan’s Road where it can be reused.
From there the paint is collected and taken to Legenderry Colours at Repair & Share Foyle, part of the Community Re-paint scheme where it is tested and quality checked. It can then be remixed to your desired colour and can be purchased from just £2 per litre.

New 2 You Reuse Centre
Bring your pre-loved furniture items to the New2You Furniture Donation Point, ran by the 4Rs Recycling CIC. It is in the Pennyburn Recycling Centre. They aim to save and revive as much as possible to re-sell in the shop. They also run courses and free drop-in morning sessions open to the community. Pop in today to find out more!

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Bulky Waste Collection Service is fully operational, providing a service for disposing large items from your home.
Reusable Nappy Scheme
Derry City and Strabane District Council have a reusable nappy incentive scheme where you can claim back £30 when you spend £50 or more on cloth nappies.
It’s estimated that this could help families save up to £1000 from birth to potty if they opt for reusable rather than disposable nappies.It’s also better for our environment saving thousands of tonnes of nappies from landfill each year.
