Council is putting plans in place to remove the chewing gum that blights local streets after receiving a £12,000 grant from environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.

International Compost Week 2023

For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food… COMPOST!

Derry City and Strabane District Council are delighted to support this Years International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW).

ICAW is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative in the compost industry. The goal of the program is to raise the awareness of the public regarding the benefits of using compost to improve or maintain high-quality soil, grow healthy plants, reduce the use of fertilizer and pesticides, improve water quality, and protect the environment.

DCSDC wants to educate and encourage householders on the benefits of recycling food waste in the correct way. Food waste does not go into the Black. Unwanted food, if put into the black bin will end up in a landfill. This is the most polluting type of waste due to the release of harmful gases.

Reusable Nappy Week 24th – 30th April 2023

Reusable Nappy Week is a collective industry approach to advocate reusable nappy use. It is coordinated by representatives across the UK reusable nappy industry, in the form of a Reusable Nappy Week Steering Committee, to utilise expertise, create a thematic focus and champion the use of reusable nappies in the years to come.

Food Waste Action Week 2023

We’re proud to announce that on March 6th until 12th March we’ll be supporting Love Food Hate Waste’s Food Waste Action Week campaign.
This year’s rallying cry –Win. Don’t Bin – is a week of action which brings the nation together to save time and money by making the food we already have go further.
A soon-to-be-revealed celebrity ambassador along with a team of exciting influencers will be occupying the internet and shining a light on how the correct storage of food can provide a second (or third!) meal for free.
Throughout the week we’ll be posting fun and informative content on our socials and maybe even a competition or two so there’s even more chance you could feel like a winner! Get involved. Find out how you can save time and money.
