Recycle Week 2024

The Rescue Me – Recycle campaign will launch during Recycle Week 2024, from 14-20 October.

By giving commonly binned items a personality, Recycle Now is helping people realise that more and more of the things they’ve been putting in the bin can be recycled after all. It’s easy to rescue aerosols, yoghurt pots, perfume bottles, cleaning sprays and toilet roll tubes from the rubbish and recycle them instead.Ā

Gum Buster Campaign

Derry City and Strabane District Council have received a special grant from Keep Britain Tidy towards the Gum Busters Campaign which will clean up chewing gum and reduce gum littering on the Council area’s streets and pavements.

The Foyle Street will be a pilot area for the equipment to be used.

Brown Bin Roll Out

Householders in rural areas waiting for brown food waste bins can expect notification of the roll out of the next phase of the scheme, with 4,000 of the new bins now ready for delivery in the coming weeks.

Paint Reuse Scheme

When you drop paint off at Pennyburn, Strathfoyle or Strahans Road recycling centres, staff will check whether the paint is in a good enough condition to be reused. If it passes this test, it will be placed into the onsite Community RePaint paint collection areas of these centres where residents and local community groups can then collect the paint, free of charge, for DIY jobs and use in local projects.
